Why campaigns use advertising vans

An advertising van puts your message in front of voters in the exact wards you want to win, on the days that matter. Unlike fixed billboards, which are usually booked weeks ahead, a van can be booked for a single day, can switch messages between areas and can follow your candidate to events and town centres.

Planning an election campaign route

  • Pick the target wards and the busiest roads, shopping streets and stations within them
  • Time the van for school runs, commuter peaks and Saturday shopping
  • Run different messages in different wards if your campaign needs it
  • Build up visibility in the weeks before polling day, not just the final days

Rules to keep in mind

Election material in the UK usually needs an imprint showing who promoted it and on whose behalf, and spending on advertising during the regulated period counts towards your election expenses. We provide a clear invoice for your records, and we will work with you to make sure the imprint is on the advert. Your agent should check the current Electoral Commission guidance for your election.

On polling day we keep the van well away from polling station entrances and follow any instructions from the returning officer or presiding officers.

Who we work with

We work with candidates, parties, agents, campaign groups and unions of every political view, and we treat every booking the same way.

Questions

How far ahead should we book for an election?

As early as possible. The weeks before local and general elections are the busiest of the year for advertising vans, so we recommend booking as soon as your dates are known.

Can we change the advert during the campaign?

Yes. Because the screens are digital you can update the creative between days, and run different versions in different wards.

Do you provide an invoice for election expenses?

Yes. You get a clear invoice showing the dates, hours and cost so your agent can record it correctly.
